Thanks for understanding:)
I have just done my killer Turbo Jam workout, and I am packaging up some carved spool Santas and heading outside cuz it is GORGEOUS!!
I wanted to tell you a few days late that the Arts A Flutter update is up and ready to be over run by shoppers:)
Ohhhhh, and get your Kleenex ready, I have found through various sites this amazing woman, named Bernie Berlin who gives all of herself to rescuing dogs and cats from a high kill shelter in TN. She is AMAZING!!!
Check out A Place To Bark and please spread the word. Our 2 sweet kitties and both of our wonderful dogs have been rescues, so Bernie's cause really holds a special place in my heart.
I will be back to share hysterical pictures from Halloween soon.
Looks like I fell off the face of the earth huh? Well I did have a birthday so I am busy slapping on the Oil Of Olay:P
Actually I am just busy being a mom, gardening at the school and at home, and carving for Christmas.
Today I was at my friend Cindy's house helping her decorate for her annual Halloween party this Friday. Matt will be Harry Potter and I was supposed to be Hermine, but Hope and Michael don't think I can pull it off with the blond hair. Cindy has saved the day with a hippie costume that she found at Goodwill, brand new I might add. (ya have to love Goodwill)
Michael is going to be Joe Dirt with his mullet wig and Hope a scary ghoul, with a mask that I don't think she will like wearing.
Now on a completely different topic.......
As we all know about the economy and pinching pennies, I have decided to share how to get a free plant and your fruit intake at the same time.
1~When you are buying a fresh pineapple look inside the top leaves for a healthy pretty green. Cut off the top of the pineapple leaving about an inch of fruit with skin still on.
2~ Let sit for one day (the fruit flies will thank you)
3~ plant in a pot with a nice loose soil. (I have a few planted in the ground here in SC, but will cover them if it gets cold)
4~ cover pineapple in pot with a plastic bag to give a humid environment.
5~Be patient, it may take months for it to take root. Give a gentle tug from time to time and if it feels as if it's firmly in the soil you may be in luck)
6~ don't be mad at me if it doesn't grow:)
*I have tried this about 8 or so times and have had 6 actually grow roots and flourish. I have yet to have a pineapple fruit but am crossing my fingers)
Now I must figure out supper and head back to Cindy's to help decorate in the dark and take Hope for her sleep over. (she's on fall break and gets to have fun this week)
I can't believe October is here already. I better brush off the dirt, put away my gardening gear and get to carving Santas. (Nah, I'll make time for both.)
This month's Arts A Flutter has been updated. Please click on the bold link and you can check out the latest fall creations.
Hope and I created this witch collage together. She designed her with lots of detail, and I recreated her with acrylic paints and collage papers on canvas. (with Hope checking in on me to make sure that I was doing her design justice.)
I am off to hurry Hope to bed and call and check in on Matthew.
I am heading out the door for pottery class, and hoping to calm my frazzled nerves by playing with clay.
Matthew left Texas early yesterday for the Federal Agent Academy and I didn't hear from him last night. I ALWAYS hear from him, but I'm sure he is fine. He was traveling with his group of soon to be Border Patrol Agents. Matt thinks it may be a bit like boot camp and they may have taken away their cell phones. I guess we will find out soon enough.
Until then I will be doing deep breathing, yoga and sniffing lavender to calm my nerves. Or I could go and throw some pottery plant pots on the wheel and get nice and muddy:)
I made the bird house above by hand building on a balloon. It was a lot of fun and I'm thrilled with the color of the glaze once it was fired.
Now I need to hang it up so the birds can have a new house.
My mind is going in a million directions today as we await news from Matthew that he is officially sworn in as a Federal Agent Intern, more specifically a Border Patrol Agent Intern.
(Matthew is on the left and Michael on the right. Both had just gotten up and the matching outfits was a coincidence ~I promise I don't still make them wear Garanimals)
Anyway, Matthew began the year + long hiring process last July and just received word of his academy date right before he and Liss came to visit Labor Day weekend. We're so proud. I have to say as a mom who missed nothing that happened in her childrens' lives, it is VERY hard letting go and missing such an important event, Matt feels the same way and has called many times from the road today.
I had another fun pottery class yesterday. I got to glaze my birdhouse made on a balloon, and I worked on my cookie jar that has become much bigger than I had planned. Since we love cookies here way too much I guess an over sized cookie jar will fit in nicely, although my scale may disagree:)
Above is my latest abstract pottery bowl. Last spring I made this one that sits on our dining room table, and I wanted to try another. I used a bowl as the mold and pressed the palm fronds into it again (Matt thought he was going to get attacked by an alligator as I was pointing out the perfect frond to pick. ha ha )
This time I used a dark green glaze and what a different look. (Heather do you like this? it reminds me of you hint hint)
Today I was working on the back yard and cleaned off the porches and patio. My plants have grown so much since the spring. I took the first picture below in May,
and this one today!! What a difference. Just thought I'd share.
I am off to tackle my latest volunteer project at Hope's new and wonderful school.
Due to overcrowding, the 5th grade was moved from the elementary and a new intermediate school was added to the middle school. You can actually see the door to Hope's pod on the left. There have been so many new and exciting things in preparation for the Intermediate school that the flower beds in the court yard have become a bit forgotten. ha ha
I am the new court yard mom, and also became the court yard mom for the middle school court yard on my first day of weeding. There is a really neat reading gazebo and water garden that I have been approached about but this court yard is first on my list.
There are amazing Morning Glories that I need to make supports for so if you have any super cheap ideas, send them my way pretty please.
I can't forget we had 3 very special birthdays in August. My mum, brother in law Bob, and our little Teddy Bear turned one last Friday~.
Well I am off to tackle the weeds and uncover some more flowers.
